Family distraught as KZN Gr 12 learner is killed by lightning

Grade 12 learner Ntethelelo Ndawonde (17) from Pietermaritzburg tragically lost his life after being struck by lightning while walking home.

Days before his final examinations, Grade 12 learner Ntethelelo Ndawonde (17), from Willowfontein, Pietermaritzburg, was walking home with two other learners when he was struck by lightning and died at the scene on Thursday afternoon.

A close family associate says they were informed of the incident by one of the teachers from Ikusaselihle High School.

“When we received the news, we thought he was injured. When they showed us where he was, we couldn’t believe he was already dead. The lightning was very severe,” adds the family associate.
