Family identifies woman found murdered in Kempton Park
Investigations into multiple deaths continue as police step up intelligence operations and patrols across Ekurhuleni.
The family of 28-year-old Gracious Nkomo has positively identified her body, bringing an end to days of uncertainty following her death along the R21 in Kempton Park, reports Kempton Express.
Nkomo’s family identified her at the Germiston Mortuary today, (September 17).
Her body was discovered partially clothed on September 10, making her one of several women whose bodies have been found in and around Kempton Park in recent months.
Her death is being investigated as part of the wider police probe into the deaths of women whose bodies have been discovered at different locations across Ekurhuleni since July.
Team investigates Kempton Park murders
Police have previously confirmed that a multidisciplinary team of investigators and specialists is working on the cases, with detectives, forensic experts, crime intelligence, K9 resources, search and rescue teams and investigative psychology specialists involved.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has extended her condolences to the Nkomo family and assured the public that police remain focused on following every available lead.
The investigation intensified after a series of discoveries in Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Clayville and Kwa-Thema.
More police officers have been deployed to affected areas, with increased patrols, visibility and intelligence-led operations underway.
The investigation also follows the September 14 discovery of another woman’s body in Olifantsfontein and the subsequent discovery of a body in Kwa-Thema.
By September 16, police were investigating eight deaths in the wider Ekurhuleni investigation.
A ninth woman’s body was discovered in Dawn Park, Boksburg, on September 17, although police have not confirmed whether that case is connected to the others.
Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward through official channels.
