Family shooting: Kempton Park businessman in court

Anton Bouwer is charged with the murder of his parents, his stepdaughter and domestic worker, as well as attempted murder of his wife.

The case against murder accused Kempton Park businessman Anton Bouwer was postponed in the regional court today.

He will make his next appearance on February 16 for his formal bail application, and was remanded in custody.

Media were denied any form of photography in court today but were granted permission to photograph before proceedings at his next appearance.

Bouwer stands accused of killing his parents Bettie (73) and Robert (78) at their house in Bredell on January 22.

He is also accused of killing his stepdaughter Natasha Bouwer (22) and domestic worker Elizabeth Mahlangu (56) at a house in Fairleads, Benoni, on the same day.

Bouwer will additionally face one charge of attempted murder for the shooting of his wife, Adelle.

Speaking outside court this afternoon, Adelle’s lawyer said no funeral arrangement had been made for the deceased.

She also could not comment on whether her client was still in hospital.

Earlier this week, the Kempton Express submitted an application for photography in court.

The application as well as those from other media houses were accepted at the court but officials indicated the Bouwer’s lawyer may contest the application.

Kempton Express journalist Mthokozisi Majola spoke to France Mahlangu, the brother of murdered domestic worker Mahlangu, outside court.

“Being here to see the man who murdered my sister makes me very emotional. It is going to be my first time seeing him,” he said.

Mahlangu added that the entire Mahlangu family wants the accused to ‘pay for what he has done’.
