Palma Town is 230km from Pemba.

According to his stepmother, Ms Cindy van Niekerk there was a massive ISIS attack on March 24 and since then Francois has been missing.

“There is no cell reception. The search and rescue choppers couldn’t land to look for him because the terrorists were shooting from the ground. There are many South African expatriates still trapped there under extremely dangerous circumstances,” Cindy said.

The family are asking for prayers that he will know to go to the choppers if he hears them.

According to reports more than 180 people are trapped inside a hotel in the town, as it has been under siege by insurgents for the last three days.
