Farmer shot dead, another injured in Ladysmith

The motive behind the attack is unknown at this stage.

A man was shot dead and another injured in a shooting that took place last night at a business along Bluebank Road.

The two men who were shot are believed to be well known commercial farmers in Ladysmith.

It is alleged that gunmen entered the business under the pretence of being customers, before pulling out guns and opening fire.

One person was shot numerous times and was declared dead at the scene. The second victim was seriously injured and rushed to hospital.

The suspects fled the scene in a getaway car and are still at large.

Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament (MP) Alf Lees says they strongly condemn the murder.

“This violence is becoming endemic in South Africa and we cannot allow it to go unchecked. We call on the police to use every possible resource to uncover the perpetrators of this murder and to also establish the motive behind the shooting,” says Lees.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan has confirmed the incident and says that Ladysmith detectives are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
