Five suspects arrested during anti-drug operation
An anti-drug operation by the Tshwane Metro Police’s Special Project Team has led to the arrests of five alleged drug dealers.
Police said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday evening at different areas for drug-related crimes, Centurion Rekord reported.
Tshwane Metro Police Special Projects Team spokesperson Kobus Louwrens said the team successfully identified several drug hotspots on the evening, and one arrest was made for dealing and possession of drugs.
The team then came across the dealer’s runner, and another arrest was made for dealing and possession of dagga, said Louwrens.
“The team moved to Wierdabrug to meet up with an informant who supplied information, which resulted in the arrest of three other suspects for dealing in and possession of drugs,” added Louwrens.
The confiscated drugs were estimated to be worth a total of R4 490, police said.
In a separate incident, a 52-year-old man was arrested in a multimillion-rand drug bust in Maitland, Cape Town earlier this month.
The unidentified man was arrested after police received a tip-off about drugs being stored at business premises.
The drugs were estimated to have a street value of R9 million.
In September, three suspects were arrested after being found in possession of drugs worth R1.2 million in Cape Town.
