Foetus found in bin
Investigations are under way after a foetus was found in a dustbin in Pretoria Gardens on Thursday.
Hercules Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairperson Conrad Naudé said: “We are not sure where the foetus comes from, but it was found by dustbin diggers outside a house on Ernest Street. They called a woman who was passing by to come see what they found.”
“The people living at the house were not home when the foetus was found. It is possible that a passerby threw the foetus in the dustbin,” added Naudé.
Hercules police spokesperson Captain Bonginkosi Msimango confirmed the foetus found at about 11am, Rekord Moot reported.
“Police are still investigating the matter and more information will be given as soon as we have gathered information about who the foetus belongs to,” he said.
Meanwhile, a newborn baby was found dead in a pit toilet in the Hlanzeni settlement in Umkomaas later on Thursday.
“ER24 paramedics were alerted to the incident after the baby was apparently discovered by local police,” said ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring.
“It is understood police were notified and discovered the newborn in the pit toilet. They alerted ER24 paramedics to assist, South Coast Sun reported.
A paramedic climbed into the pit toilet to recover the baby. They found that he was already dead – there was nothing they could do to revive him, added Meiring.
Police investigations are ongoing.
