Following a few calls about the stray Egyptian goose and her goslings on the highway near Malibongwe Drive, the Randburg SPCA swiftly moved to the area to help the animals.

The SPCA kennel manager, Cynthia Bezuidenhout, said they received calls from the public about the animals. “Our driver Sibone Witbooi rushed out with one of the kennel staff Elvis Makhubedu to try and get the mom and the babies,” she said.

With the assistance of the National Social Insurance and Johannesburg Metro police, members of the SPCA managed to secure the four goslings. “Unfortunately, the mom flew away,” said Bezuidenhout.

Metro police helped to slow down the traffic flow to allow members of the SPCA to succeed with their mission.

Bezuidenhout explained that rescued animals are normally moved to a facility that can rehabilitate them and subsequently be released. “The goslings were checked out and were in good health and sent to a rehabilitation centre. We are extremely grateful for the assistance and very happy it was a great rescue and that the animals are safe.”
