Free State police seek suspects after couple shot in house robbery
A couple was shot during a house robbery in Mphatlalatsane Village, with police appealing for information to trace the armed suspects.
Free State police in Phuthaditjhaba are appealing to the public for assistance following a house robbery in which a couple was shot and injured at Mphatlalatsane Village, near Phuthaditjhaba.
According to Bloemfontein Courant, police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring says the incident took place on Tuesday morning while the couple was asleep at their home.
Armed suspects force entry
Mophiring explains three unknown suspects wearing balaclavas forced open the front door and entered the house, where they demanded money from the victims.
The situation escalated when the husband reportedly tried to defend himself and his wife using a spade.
“Both victims were then shot by the suspects. The attackers allegedly stole two cellphones, a TV set, identity documents and bank cards before fleeing the scene on foot,” Mophiring adds.
Investigation underway
The injured couple was transported to hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care. A case of house robbery and two counts of attempted murder have been opened and are under investigation.
Appeal for information
Police are urging anyone with information that could assist in the arrest and conviction of the suspects to contact the Phuthaditjhaba detective service commander Colonel Pudumo Milela on 079 889 3311, or call Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
