Freitag murder: Both wanted suspects behind bars

Police have confirmed that both wanted suspects in the murder case of Jacques Freitag are behind bars on Tuesday evening.

Both wanted suspects in the brutal murder case of former high jump champion, Jacques Freitag are behind bars.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili said Rudie Lubbe and Chantelle Oosthuizen were arrested at a guesthouse in Sabie, Mpumalanga, at about 10:00 on Tuesday.

“They will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.”

This comes after the Hercules Police Station obtained warrants of arrest for Lubbe and Oosthuizen last week.

It is believed they were on the run from the law following the discovery of Freitag’s body on July 1.

Both are facing charges, which include murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

The body of the 42-year-old Freitag was discovered with gunshot wounds in a field near the Zandfontein cemetery in Pretoria West.

Freitag was reported missing four weeks ago. He was reportedly last seen when he left his mother’s house at around 01:00 on June 17 with an unknown man to a guesthouse in Pretoria West.

The discovery was made by the SAPS Search and Rescue Team, which comprised SAPS units such as the Air Wing, Water Wing, K9 Unit and the local police.

Anyone with information are encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Detective Captain Martin Smith, at 082 778 9385 or SAPS #CrimeStop number on 08600 10111.
