KZN: Game rangers killed in a hail of bullets at Silverglen Nature Reserve
Provincial police spokeswoman, Cpt Nqobile Gwala confirmed that two counts of murder are under investigation at the Bayview police station.
The mayor of the eThekwini Municipality, Cllr Mxolisi Kaunda, has called on police to speed up investigations following the callous murders of two game rangers, who were gunned down while on duty at the Silverglen Nature Reserve.
The incident occurred on Thursday.
It is believed that the employees were seated in a patrol vehicle, when an unknown suspect fired a hail of bullets, killing both of them.
Cllr Kaunda condemned the senseless crime. “We condemn the ambush attack on our game rangers, who were on duty patrolling the nature reserve. Killings of this nature are not common in our natural resources and we have instructed officials to intensify safety and security in all our nature reserves,” he said.
He urged members of the community to come forward should they have any information that could lead to the apprehension of those involved.

“On Thursday, police received a complaint of a shooting at the nature reserve. Upon arrival at the scene, the police discovered the bodies of the municipal employees. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds and were declared dead at the scene. The matter is still under investigation,” she added.
