Gauteng Covid-19 active cases at 19 276

Gauteng’s overall Covid-19 positive cases climbed to 221 320 with 197 712 recoveries and 4 332 deaths thus far, according to figures published by the Department of Health.

This saw the province having about 19 276 active cases. The Gauteng province recorded 266 new cases on Tuesday.

The Department of Health said out of 141 482 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person who tested positive for Covid-19), 124 374 people have completed the 10 days monitoring period, with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The number of hospitalised people due to Covid-19 in the province stood at 1 504.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 88 275 cases and 82 668 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 49 647 cases and 48 417 recoveries
• Tshwane: 49 359 cases and 42 932 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 14 990 cases and 11 588 recoveries
• West Rand: 14 234 cases and 12 107 recoveries
