Gauteng dam levels take slight dip
Dam levels in the province showed a dip of just over 2% this week.
Dam levels in Gauteng had shown a slight decrease over the past week compared to the previous week, the water and sanitation department said.
“The Gauteng provincial water storage slightly declined this week, from 99, 5% last week to 97, 4% this week,” departmental spokesperson Sputnik Ratau said.
“This shows a slight decrease compared to the same time last year when the levels stood at 101, 1%.”
Ratau further said almost all the dams had shown a decrease in water levels, despite others above 100% capacity.
Bon Accord dam recorded 139,1% which was a slight decrease compared to the 139,7% which was recorded last week.
“Bronkhorstspruit dam has also marginally declined to 90,3% this week compared to last week when it was at 90,7%,” Ratau said.
The dam had reportedly stood at 101,1% in the same week last year.
The Rietvlei dam water level, on the other hand, was recorded at just below the 100% mark.
“At present, the dam is at 99,8%,” Ratau said.
Roodeplaat dam, meanwhile, are at the firm state of 100,4% this week.
The dam level was reportedly recorded at 108,1% last week.
“The dam ranks among those that have remained stable up until now,” he said.
Ratau said the department was urging all water users to play their role in ensuring water security by continuing to use water wisely.
“Water is life and it has no substitute,” he concluded.
