Gauteng man arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting niece (7)

A man from Soul City informal settlement has been arrested after allegedly not being able to keep his hands to himself.

Kagiso police said that despite their continuous efforts to advocate for the safety of women and children, there are still those in their community who fall victim to abuse at the hands of someone they know.

This was proven when a seven-year-old girl was indecently assaulted in Soul City in Kagiso, Gauteng, on Sunday.

According to Captain Solomon Sibiya of the Kagiso police, a 37-year-old man allegedly abused his seven-year-old niece at the Soul City informal settlement.

The man is believed to have also touched the child indecently.

Sibiya explains that the girl complained about pain when she urinated and told her mother that it was not the first time her uncle had touched her.

“The suspect allegedly did it on October 9 and the mother reported the matter to a local facility.”

The suspect was arrested by the West Rand Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit and is currently detained at the Kagiso Police Station.

“Children are looking at their uncles and expect genuine protection from them, but instead they are victimised by the same people they trust most. I would once more like to challenge all mothers out there not to lose sight of their children as the worst can happen to children during this time of the year,” pleads Brigadier Nyelisani Mabatha of the Kagiso Police Station.
