Gauteng reports an additional 47 confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 1 148

The Department of Health stated that 551 recoveries from Covid-19 have been confirmed in the province.

The Gauteng Department of Health has announced that as of Sunday, 19 April, the number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Gauteng is at 1 148.

A total of 2 771 individuals, who were confirmed contacts of the infected, have been cleared and discharged.

Allocating Gauteng cases to respective districts is still ongoing. After obtaining further information on contact numbers and addresses from law enforcement agencies, provincial outbreak teams and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), the Department of Health was able to make corrections where a case may have been incorrectly allocated to a particular district.

The provincial breakdown is as follows:

  • Johannesburg – 690
  • Ekhuruleni – 223
  • Tshwane -112
  • Sedibeng – 11
  • West Rand – 39
  • Unallocated cases – 53

The Department of Health further stated that 551 recoveries from Covid-19 have been confirmed in the province.
