Gauteng woman killed with a panga, husband arrested

Police managed to track down the suspect after he was allegedly on the run for two days.

Yet another woman has been brutally murdered, allegedly by her husband, in Tsakani near Springs on Sunday. This follows reports of two Johannesburg women, one in Thembisa and one in Crystal Park in Benoni, who were stabbed to death on Monday.

It is alleged that on Sunday, a 53-year-old man assaulted his wife, Tinny Nkgudi (51), with a panga and a spade, breaking her arms and some of her teeth.

The deceased’s 25-year-old daughter, Carol Modjadji, said when she arrived home about 06:00 she grew worried when her mother did not respond when she called out her name.

“I tried calling my mother’s phone, but it was off. A neighbour offered to help break the padlock. My son jumped out of the wardrobe crying and petrified and narrated what had happened.

“We found my mother’s body in the bathroom with multiple injuries to her head and body.

Tsakani police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu says that the suspect was arrested after being on the run for two days.

“He was found with the deceased’s cellphone and voluntarily pointed out the clothes stashed under the bed as those he wore during the commission of the crime. The suspect will appear before the Tsakani Magistrates Court soon,” she says.

• It was previously reported that on Monday, two women were stabbed to death, allegedly by their partners. In both cases men have been charged with murder and have already appeared in court.
