Girl, 12, allegedly raped by neighbour

The case against a 25-year-old man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl after he allegedly offered her a packet of snacks, has been remanded.

Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said on September 12, the victim was coming from a tuck-shop when she was pulled by the suspect to the nearby bushes and raped her.

Zwane said the case was remanded to 23 September 2015 for further investigation.

In a separate incident, a nine-year-old child in the Serba Informal Settlement in Tarlton, on the West Rand was allegedly raped by a 75-year-old neighbour.

Tarlton police spokesperson Constable Lucky Matome said the victim was allegedly sent to the suspect’s house to go and ask for soap. But instead of giving the soap to the child, the complainant claimed the suspect raped the child.

He added the suspect was arrested at around 11pm on August 27. He made a brief appearance in court on August 31.
