Girl, 12, allegedly raped by teen neighbour

A case of rape is being investigated after a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lolo Mangena said a 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Saturday at her home by a 13-year-old neighbour in Block T, Soshanguve, Rekord North reported.

“The complainant, who is the victim’s mother, said she found her daughter and the neighbour in the backyard. The complainant asked what the two were doing, and the neighbour told the complainant that he raped her daughter, but that he didn’t penetrate,” he said.

Mangena added the girl’s mother then discovered her daughter was in pain and immediately reported the matter to the police.

A rape case has been opened, and police are still investigating the matter.

In a similar incident, a case of rape has been opened against an 11-year-old boy after he allegedly raped a three-year-old girl in KaMhlushwa, near Nelspruit, in Mpumalanga in November last year.

According to police, the toddler’s older sister, who is also a minor, found out about the alleged rape when she was bathing her. The victim reportedly told her sister her private parts were sore.

The sister then reported the matter to a neighbour, who notified the police, and a case of rape was opened.
