Give them something to inherit

A new movement is encouraging people to embrace the spirit and attitude that enables South Africans to triumph over adversity.

IT has been 27 years since we committed to building a better South Africa for all. This year, the civil unrest in July reminded of just how far we have to go to heal the divisions of the past; lay foundations for a democratic and open society; improve the quality of life for all citizens; and build a united South Africa. The future of South Africa is up to us.

The country we build starts with the country we recognise, promote, engage and put our efforts into. Let’s give future South Africans something to inherit, by honouring that responsibility. It starts with simple, positive action that builds a better South Africa.

Volunteer, donate, support local businesses, take pride in where you live and work, and commit to big and small acts of kindness. Post and share any activity that promotes social cohesion and goodwill, using the hashtag #ThisIsUs A new movement is encouraging people to embrace the spirit and attitude that enables South Africans to triumph over adversity.

Three ways you can support #ThisIsUs

As business South Africa

Mobilise your business to join the call for positive action this Heritage Day. Issue a challenge to your colleagues, customers, suppliers and competitors. Volunteer, donate, support local businesses and take pride in where you live and work. Commit to an act of kindness, be it big or small.

As creatives in South Africa

What is the legacy we would like to leave for a future South Africa? Give our youth something to inherit with a poem, track, short film, illustration, or any piece of multi- media content that embraces the #ThisIsUs theme.

As influencers in South Africa

Leverage your influence to encourage fellow South Africans to embrace positivity and take positive action this Heritage Day.

Whatever you choose to do, help create awareness and celebrate the good by posting photos and details of your #ThisIsUs journey to your social media platforms, using the hashtag #ThisIsUs.

Together, let’s foster national pride and rejoice in who we are!
