Grade 10 pupil in court for stabbing schoolmate
A 19-year-old Grade 10 pupil is expected to appear in the Pinetown Magistrates’ Court today after he allegedly stabbed a fellow pupil in KwaNyuswa, KwaZulu-Natal.
Police spokesperson Constable Ndumiso Manqele said a fight broke out between the accused and a Grade 11 pupil during break time at Khabazela High School on Friday morning, Highway Mail reported.
“It is alleged that the accused drew his knife and stabbed the victim. He sustained four stab wounds,” said Manqele.
The Grade 10 pupil was arrested at school while he was writing an exam on Monday, and a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was opened at the Hillcrest Police Station.
Last month, a 17-year-old pupil appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrates’ Court in Mpumalanga after he allegedly stabbed schoolmate to death during a fight over a girl.
Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the 17-year-old allegedly stabbed an 18-year-old pupil in a fight over a girl.
The teenager was arrested outside the premises of Gedlembane Secondary School, near Mbombela.
In December, a 15-year-old pupil was stabbed to death outside school premises while on his way home in Bishop Lavis, Cape Town. The teenager was found with a stab wound to the neck and, according witnesses, the teen was stabbed by a 17-year-old pupil and died on the scene.
