Have your say on eThekwini’s new green building policy

Share your views and possibly help the city go green with its new building policy.

Join in online and have your say regarding the eThekwini Municipality’s Draft New Buildings Green Policy during a webinar on Thursday, 5 November from 9am to 11am or for a live presentation on Friday, 13 November at the Pinetown Civic Centre from 2pm to 4pm.

Via this new policy, the City aims to encourage the development of buildings that improves the well-being of both its residents and the natural environment.

“Durban is a globally recognised city that is leading the climate change agenda in Africa and is proud to introduce the Draft New Buildings Green Policy that will influence the future climate action in eThekwini,” said the City in a statement.

It also noted that energy use from buildings accounts for about one third of the total greenhouse gas emissions in eThekwini and that cleaning this up would support a climate safe future.

“Buildings are important, so much of our time is spent inside them; they are places where we work, pray and live. Shouldn’t we have a say on how they are built?” questioned the City.

To join the webinar or the in-person presentation, RSVP, with your selection of location as the subject line, to priscilla.moodley@durban.gov.za.
