Hefty sentence for four men who dumped Krugersdorp victim’s body in dustbin

Excellent investigation work done by a local police sergeant has been hailed for bringing the foursome to the book.

Just more than a year on from a man’s body being discovered in a dustbin in Krugersdorp, four men have had their fate sealed.

The foursome aged between 20 and 34 have been found guilty of last year’s murder of a man in Kagiso. They received 15 years of direct imprisonment each and an additional five years for theft.

In March 2022, Krugersdorp News reported that the body of an unknown man was found in a dustbin in an open space between extensions 9 and 12.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya at the time said the man had sustained head injuries but no information was available that could lead to the arrest of his murderers.

The Kagiso Police then opened a case of murder which was later allocated to Sergeant Maleba from the Kagiso Serious and Violent Crimes Unit to investigate.

“Sergeant Maleba activated his informers in the area who within a short space of time brought forward information to the investigating officer. The information then led to the successful arrest of the four suspects. All were denied bail.

“Sergeant Maleba then managed to link all four suspects to the crime and the case was placed on the court roll where on April 4, the Kagiso Regional Court found them guilty. They were not only convicted of murder but also for stealing cash that belonged to the deceased.”

Acting Kagiso Police Station commander Colonel Peter Mabuso as well as management have applauded Maleba for his dedicated efforts and excellent investigative skills.
