A dog believed to have been trapped inside a bathroom for four to five days has been rescued by the Heidelberg SPCA, reports Heidelberg Nigel Heraut.

This is after Ratanda SAPS responded to reports of a foul smell coming from a locked house.

The rescue took place on July 9, after concerned neighbours alerted police to a strong stench emanating from the property.

Police officers requested assistance from the animal welfare organisation.

When SPCA inspectors entered the property, they encountered distressing conditions.

The house was filled with piles of rubbish, rats and an overwhelming stench. The SPCA believes the dog had been trapped for at least four to five days but had survived the ordeal.

The dog’s owner has not yet been located, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.

The Heidelberg SPCA thanked Ratanda SAPS for requesting its assistance and praised the concerned neighbours whose report led to the rescue.

The incident serves as a reminder of the vital role communities play in reporting suspected cases of animal neglect or distress, enabling authorities and animal welfare organisations to intervene before it is too late.
