Heidelberg woman who tried to sell boyfriend’s child sentenced to 20 years

The Hawks Investigation Unit completed its intense investigation within seven months.

A woman from Heidelberg was sentenced in the Benoni High Court for attempting to sell a child.

On January 26, Jacolien Coetzer (36) from Heidelberg was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for trying to sell her boyfriend’s daughter to a sex trafficking syndicate.

In 2021, Coetzer enquired who would be interested in purchasing a child. Her initial asking price was R40-million.

In June 2021, the police received a tip-off from someone who knew the girl’s family, and a trap was put in motion.

With the trap set by the police, a meeting was arranged at a shopping centre in Heidelberg.

Coetzer, then just a suspect, received an amount of R30 000.

The police followed her to her place of residence where she was arrested. The Hawks Investigation Unit completed its intense investigation within seven months.

There was also a case against Coetzer’s mother, but that was withdrawn when Coetzer admitted to trying to sell the girl.
