Helicopter crash lands on N12 Highway

A helicopter was forced to make a crash landing on the N12 Highway, just before the Snake Road off ramp in Benoni in Gauteng’s East Rand on Tuesday night.

ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said the helicopter allegedly experienced mechanical failure,Benoni City Times reported.

The pilot was then reportedly forced to land in the closest available space.

“When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the crashed helicopter on one side of the road,” Russouw said.

The helicopter allegedly auto-rotated and crash-landed on the road.

No motor vehicles or pedestrians were hit, and the pilot only sustained minor injuries.

Police were said to be investigating the incident.

In September, a man and a woman died after a helicopter crashed near Rand Airport in Germiston.

The occupants of the helicopter were reportedly returning from a successful stolen-vehicle recovery operation.
