High stages of load-shedding on the cards for the week
Stage 5 and 6 power cuts will be the order of the day this week as Eskom struggles to keep the lights on.

Rotational stages of load-shedding – that comprise of stage 5 and 6 – will be implemented until further notice, Eskom has announced.
The embattled power utility says that stage 6 load-shedding is set to continue until 05:00 tomorrow, whereafter it will be lowered to stage 5 between 05:00 and 16:00.
Eskom says that until further notice, stage 5 (05:00-16:00) and stage 6 (16:00-05:00) power cuts will be implemented daily as they currently struggle to keep up with demand.
Earlier this afternoon, breakdowns resulted in excess of 17 000MW of generating capacity being unavailable. A further 5 457MW was offline due to planned maintenance, while in the last 24 hours, a unit each at the Camden, Medupi and Koeberg power stations returned to service.
The state utility over the weekend announced that ‘it is working hard to address the causes of persistent breakdowns at power stations and ensure that the higher stages of load-shedding are reduced’.
