Holidaymakers fight off baby kidnappers in KZN

Two men sustained injuries when they fought to prevent the kidnappers from grabbing a baby.

A family holiday to the beach nearly ended in tragedy after an attempted baby kidnapping at Hiberdene yesterday.

Just before 19:00 Mi7 National Group’s Emergency Medical Services was dispatched to the Hiberdene area after reports of an assault.

In a statement, Mi7 said medics found two men with injuries when they arrived on the scene. One was stabbed in the hand and the other was assaulted with a knobkierrie-type weapon.

It is alleged that the men are part of a family who went to visit a remote beach when they were approached by three suspects who tried to grab the family’s baby who was being pushed in a pram.

The two men, who both work in the security industry, fought back and were injured during the fight to keep the baby from being kidnapped.

The suspects allegedly later gave up and fled on foot.

Both men were stabilised on the scene and transported to hospital.

Mi7 urged beachgoers to avoid isolated spots and make use of beach areas where other members of the public are present.
