Husband shoots wife at Vanderbijlpark Police Station
Police members initially thought they are being targeted when they heard gunshots outside the building.

A woman, who police suspect was driving to the Vanderbijlpark Police Station to seek refuge after an alleged domestic dispute, was on Monday shot and killed, allegedly by her husband, after she crashed her car before she could reach safety.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Brenda Muridili says upon hearing the gunshots, members posted at the community service centre in Vanderbijlpark, called for backup from neighbouring police stations thinking that they were under attack.
“However, after investigating, they discovered that a man had allegedly shot and killed his wife at the back of the police station.”
According to Muridili a high-speed car chase between the couple ended at the police station when the wife crashed her car into a ditch at the back of the police building.
“It is reported that the husband walked towards the wife’s vehicle and shot her. Police fired shots towards the man, who at the time still had a firearm in his hand. The gun was seized, and he was placed under arrest,” Muridili says.
Muridili says the suspect did not sustain any injuries during the incident. A murder docket has been opened for investigation.
The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of police, General Elias Mawela, has condemned the incident.
Mawela says, “A police station is supposed to be a safe haven for victims of crime. It must never happen again that a perpetrator follows his victim to the police station to commit such a heinous offence.”
