Hyena bites Kruger National Park staff member in her room

Immediate action was taken to ensure the safety of a national park employee after she was bitten by a hyena.

A Kruger National Park employee was bitten on the arm by a hyena while she was asleep in her room at the Berg-en-Dal staff living quarters this morning.

The incident happened at 02:00.

The staff member was stabilised and rushed to hospital for further medical attention.

Her condition is stable.

Isaac Phaala, the spokesperson for the park, confirmed that the section ranger and his team initiated a search for the hyena. Regrettably, it had to be euthanised, he said.
