Durban North SAPS have confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened following the discovery of a headless body near uMhlanga last night.

According to police, the discovery was made on the M41 (eastbound) near the Gateway on-ramp just after 20:20.

While the post-mortem is yet to determine the cause of death, a statement from Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) suggests that the incident may have been a hit-and-run.

Rusa spokesperson Prem Balram said the body was dragged for several metres.

“Passing motorists contacted the Rusa Operations Centre at approximately 20:20, reporting human body parts lying on the road. Officers were dispatched and, on arrival, located the deceased’s torso, legs, and arms. The head could not be found. The deceased is believed to have been run over and dragged for several metres. The vehicle involved in the accident did not stop at the scene,” he says.
