Interprovincial vehicle hijacking syndicate dismantled

Col Katlego Mogale of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said, “A project-driven investigation has consequently linked them to more than 17 hijacking incidents thus far. The said cases, some of which date back to 2008, were committed across provinces.”

The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Team together with Crime Intelligence and Gauteng K9 have arrested two more suspects of an alleged notorious vehicle hijacking syndicate in an interprovincial takedown operation.

The syndicate has been on the radar of the authorities for a while. Col Katlego Mogale of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said, “A project-driven investigation has consequently linked them to more than 17 hijacking incidents thus far. The said cases, some of which date back to 2008, were committed across provinces.”

The syndicate’s reign of terror includes incidents in several provinces. They are due to appear in court.

The pair’s arrest follows that of a 36-year-old man on Friday, February 12, 2021, by the same team in Cape Town.

He appeared in court on February 15, 2021. The matter is expected to be centralised soon to allow for the three to appear in the same dock to face charges of hijackings and possession of stolen vehicles.
