JMPD resumes drunken driving roadblocks

JMPD has warned that motorists will be arrested, their blood samples drawn and they will be detained at police stations.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) has issued a stern warning to motorists as roadblocks for drunken driving are set to resume.

According to JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar, the Metro police department made the decision to resume with the roadblocks due to the rapid increase in accidents whereby drivers and pedestrians have consumed alcohol.

“During the month of June the number of accidents has increased dramatically where alcohol was a contributing factor,” said Minnaar.

He added that JMPD would also like to issue a stern warning against the use of home-brewed drinks such as pineapple beer or drinks made with frequently sanitised equipment that contain alcohol.

“Motorists will get arrested, their blood samples will be drawn and they will be detained at police stations,” concluded Minnaar.
