Johannesburg mother and daughter (10) shot by neighbour’s robbers

The Edenglen duo were reportedly shot in the leg by men who robbed the house next door.

Bedfordview and Edenvale News has received reports of a 10-year-old girl and her mother being shot during a residential robbery.

According to information provided by SOS Security, shooting incidents and a robbery occurred in Edenglen yesterday.

Edenvale SAPS is yet to confirm the information.

According to SOS’ Gary Wilson, the robbers shot the mother and daughter after robbing the property next door.

“The suspects randomly shot over the wall, shooting the mother and daughter.”

Wilson says the two were transported to a hospital for medical treatment for gunshot wounds to their legs.

It is unknown how many suspects were involved and it is believed they then fled the scene.

Wilson appealed to anyone with information and security footage related to the incident to come forward.

Edenvale Police Station communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile says information about the incident will be provided ‘as soon as possible’.

SAPS communication

Caxton Local Media and the Forum of Community Journalists (FCJ) has raised objection to a directive issued to police stations not allowing local SAPS spokespersons to communicate with local media.

“This jeopardises transparency and negatively impacts community journalists’ roles as community watchdogs and informing society.

“It is through the reportage of community journalists that communities often unite with local police officers in the fight against crime and join awareness campaigns to fight off social ills, organised crime and more,” said the FCJ executive director, Marietta Lombard.
