Justice department to look into Pretoria north court issues
A decomposed cat carcass was allegedly among the old office equipment that caused a stir.
An investigation has been launched into alleged poor asset management at the Pretoria North magistrate’s court, Rekord East reports.
The justice and correctional services department said it was investigating what has led to poor asset management at the court.
Spokesperson Chrispin Phiri told the media that this was after a picture of a decomposed cat carcass on an old chair and other office equipment in the courtyard at the court surfaced on social media.
A picture caption read: “No one knows how it got there and nobody seems to care. Lawyers and the public have no choice but to close their eyes and nose when walking past the mess.”
“The courtyard is almost fully packed with old chairs, boxes, computer screens and old telephones and so are the passages,” the post read.
It further alleged office equipment had been there for weeks and was a result of old “stock” being thrown out “but nobody seems to know what to do with the old equipment”.
When Rekord visited the court on Monday, the chairs and other office equipment were in a cordoned-off section of the courtyard and the carcass could be seen.
Hundreds of social media users shared their views on the post which was made on Facebook:
