Kempton Park employee shot trying to stop a robbery, one arrested
A male employee was shot in the leg as he attempted to fight off three men who tried to rob another store in the shopping centre.
A SPAR employee was shot and injured while trying to prevent a business robbery at Glen Acres Shopping Centre in Kempton Park, yesterday afternoon.
According to Kempton Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Dipuo Ditshego, police officers and security personnel responded to a call of a business robbery in progress at Ackermans Glen Acres.
“On arrival at the scene, officers found that one male SPAR employee was shot in the leg. According to information he had tried to fight off three suspects who robbed Ackermans,” says Ditshego.
She adds that three armed men entered the shop and pointed a firearm at a female employee.
“The men forced her to the back of the store where the safe is kept. The SPAR employee saw the suspects and tried to close the roller door of the store while fighting with one of suspects. The SPAR employee was shot by a second suspect,” explains Ditshego.

She says three suspects ran out of the shop with a R2 000 voucher taken at the till.
“Police and security officers chased and arrested one suspect along Dann Road. The injured victim was taken to hospital.”
Ditshego adds two other suspects managed to get away.
“The suspect is detained at Kempton Park Police Station and he will be charged with [the] possession of [an] unlicensed firearm and ammunition, business robbery and attempted murder.”
She says the man will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court this week.
The police are appealing to the community who might have information on the other suspects to contact Kempton Park SAPS on 011 393 8600 or 10111.
