‘Kidnapping’ caught on camera: 3 suspects hand themselves over in eMalahleni

The victim claims his kidnappers threatened to chop him into pieces and throw his body parts in a dam.

A video of a man being forced into a car by three men at a filling station in eMalahleni caused a stir on social media yesterday. The man has since been found, the vehicle allegedly involved impounded and three suspects handed themselves over to police early this morning.

On the video, allegedly taken at Broadway Motors in eMalahleni yesterday, it can be seen how a man, now identified as Glenton van den Heever (34), tries to escape from a Toyota Avanza with his hands bound behind his back before he is forced back into the vehicle by three men.

Van den Heever was later found next to the N12 near Delmas where he was reportedly dropped off by his kidnappers.

Delmas police spokesperson Captain Carla Hartley says a case was opened and transferred to the Witbank Police Station for further investigation.

Van der Heever reportedly told police that he was kidnapped in Reyno Ridge in eMalahleni, while he was working in someone’s garden.

He told police that after he tried to escape at the filling station, his kidnappers threatened to chop him up and dispose of his body parts in a dam.

Witbank police spokesperson Captain Eddie Hall confirmed that three suspects aged 27, 31 and 35, walked into the police station at around 01:00 today to hand themselves over.
