Knife-wielding murder suspect arrested in Durban

Trying to defend himself against a group of attackers did not end well for a man.

A man who was accosted by a group of marauding assailants in the Durban CBD was stabbed to death when he tried to fight back.

According to Durban Central SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Zanele Khomo, the incident occurred at about 07:20 on Monday.

“The Workshop Crime Prevention Unit responded to a complaint of robbery in Johannes Nkosi Street. Upon arrival, one suspect was arrested while trying to flee the crime scene. Officers proceeded to where the victim was lying on the road with a stab wound to his stomach,” she says.

Khomo adds that officers questioned the suspect, who claimed that the victim was approached by a group of men, including himself, who took his belongings.

“The victim then fought the [men] and managed to grab the knife, however, he was [allegedly] stabbed in the stomach and succumbed to his injuries,” she explains.
