A man from Krugersdorp West was convicted after he stole his grandmother’s money, bank card and cellphone.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane says Marico Viljoen (28) was convicted and sentenced in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court recently.

According to Sebonyane the grandmother said she went to sleep on Thursday, January 27, and left her grandson, Viljoen, awake.

“The complainant alleged that she put her handbag in a cupboard before she went to sleep. When she woke up the next morning at about 06:00, she went to fetch her bag and noticed that her bank card, R1 300 in cash as well as a cellphone were missing,” says Sebonyane.

Sebonyane said that the grandmother went looking for Viljoen but he was not at home. She also discovered that R4 500 had been withdrawn from her bank account.

A case of theft was opened and registered with the Krugersdorp Police. Detective Sergeant Trevor Nhlapo investigated the case and arrested Viljoen.

The case was then assigned to Detective Sergeant Mapula Ndlovu who made sure that Viljoen was convicted and sentenced.

Krugersdorp Police station commander Brigadier Happy Xaba applauded the members for a job well done.
