KZN farmer attacked and robbed, suspects still at large
No arrests have been made after a man was attacked and robbed on his farm in the Vuma area, outside eShowe, in KwaZulu-Natal.
The area’s police spokesperson Tienkie van Vuuren said the farmer, Geoff Hanbury-King, 46, was assaulted and robbed of his firearms and motor vehicle by three men yesterday at about 6am,Zululand Observer reported.
Hanbury-King was confronted by the armed men as he stopped outside his house on the farm, added Van Vuuren.
“The suspects took him and his gardener into the house. They tied them together with the domestic worker. The suspects then started assaulting Hanbury-King by kicking him and also suffocated him with a plastic bag while asking for money,” said Van Vuuren.
It is alleged the men also used an iron to burn Hanbury-King on his body. The men searched the house, but could not find money, then fled with Hanbury-King’s vehicle.
The victims managed to free themselves and reported the matter at eShowe Police Station, added Van Vuuren. Hanbury-King’s vehicle was later recovered in the Vuma area. Investigations are ongoing.
Last month, a farmer was bound and severely beaten by assailants at his farm home outside eMalahleni.
