KZN farmers steps in to restore water to community

The Action Homes community’s taps ran dry at the end of 2022.

Water has been restored to the Action Homes community in KwaZulu-Natal when farmers in Bergville decided to intervene after taps ran dry more than a month ago.

According to DA councillor Thys Janse van Rensburg, numerous pleas by the community to the uThukela District Municipality to have a damaged pump room repaired and their water supply restored, fell on deaf ears.

The community was especially hard hit during the heat wave in January. They started barricading the R616 road between Bergville and Ladysmith in protest.

Bergville farmers decided to assist the community.  Plans were hatched and equipment and supplies sourced. After digging trenches and laying pipes, water supply to the community was finally restored.
