Three schoolchildren from Mandlamasha Primary in Dannhauser, under Amajuba District in KZN, were struck by lightning on their way home from school yesterday.

The KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs said one child died instantly, while the other two were rushed to hospital.

Four people have been killed by lightning strikes in the area over the past month.
