KZN man arrested for infant son’s murder
A man was arrested on Thursday and will appear in court soon after the alleged murder of his four-month-old son in Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal, police said.
According to police, the suspect had been arguing with his girlfriend in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The enraged suspect then allegedly lifted the sleeping infant and smashed its head against the wall.
The child sustained serious head injuries and was taken to a local clinic, where he died, and a case of murder was opened by Inanda police.
Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the area, but he was later arrested in KwaDukuza on Thursday.
The 25-year-old suspect is due to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrates’ Court soon to face murder charges.
KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni condemned the brutal killing of the child.
In July, a 23-year-old woman was arrested for the murder of her three-year-old niece in Kutlwanong in the Free State.
According to postmortem results, the toddler was stabbed 99 times.
The woman was arrested after being found in possession of a blood-stained knife, two used candles and bloodied clothes.
A shepherd discovered the child’s body with a packet of Niknaks and sweets next to it.
