KZN man jailed for raping mentally challenged woman

The woman was able to report the incident to the police and later identified the man, as they both reside in the same neighbourhood.

A KZN man, Sipho Msayi Ncama, was sentenced to 18 years’ imprisonment in the Ezinqoleni Regional Court after being found guilty of rape.

The court found Ncama guilty of raping a 25-year-old mentally challenged woman when she went to a family gathering in Ezinqoleni, west of Port Shepstone, on May 30.

KZN police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the woman was able to easily identify her assailant as he was from the same area. Police then arrested and charged him.

After a number of appearances in the regional court, Ncama was detained.

The investigating officer was Detective Sergeant Joel Shezi of the Margate (FCS) Family Violence and Child Protection Unit in the province.

Ncama was also found unfit to possess a firearm.
