KZN taxi driver executed on Christmas Day

When the man's family arrived on the dirt road where his taxi was seen, they found the abandoned vehicle with the engine running.

A man was executed on Christmas Day, in Hazelmere, near Verulam in KZN.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram, the man suffered multiple wounds.

“Rusa received the call for assistance at 06:42 and arrived on scene a short while later. Paramedics and reaction officers found the victim dead. He suffered two gunshot wounds to the back of his head, a partial decapitation from a deep cut to his neck and bodily wounds,” explains Balram.

According to Balram, the man was a taxi driver.

At about 13:00 on Christmas Eve the man received a call on his cellphone with a person requesting to meet. The conductor was dropped off at his home and he drove off. He could not be located since and his calls went unanswered.

On Christmas morning his family received information that his taxi was seen along a dirt road. When the family got to the scene, they found the taxi abandoned with the engine running. After a brief search, the body of the man was located in a bush several meters away from his vehicle, and 9mm spent cartridges were recovered in the vicinity,.

He addx the victim’s wallet, cash and cellphone were not taken and a .45 calibre handgun belonging to him could not be located.

“A case of murder is being investigated,” concludes Balram.
