KZN teen left severely scarred after acid attack
A woman (46) has been charged with attempted murder after a violent incident that reportedly involved her daughter and a matric learner.
A teenager from Charlottedale in KZN had to be hospitalised with severe burns to her face and upper body after having acid poured over her on February 12.
Allegedly the result of a fight with another teenager, the acid burns have left 18-year old Londiwe Thabethe traumatised and with severe scarring across her body.
A 46-year-old woman was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.
“The suspect appeared in KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday and the case was remanded to today,” says police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala.
The arrested woman is allegedly the mother of the teenage girl who had been in an argument with Londiwe.
This incident went viral last weekend when photos of the injured girl were published on Facebook.
Londiwe is a matric learner at Groutville High School and her mother, Jabu, says she wants justice for her child.
“Londi was taken to the General Justice Gizenga Mpanza Hospital where she was treated and discharged. We were not happy with the service at the hospital. Through social media, we managed to get help and she is now admitted at Ngwelezana Hospital in Empangeni,” explains Jabu.
She thanks everyone who had been supporting them since the incident happened.
“I am short of words to express my gratitude to all who have been donating and offering help. I hope my child will get better and justice be served,” she concludes.
