Large parts of North Coast left in the dark

Problems with the electricity supply in large parts of the North Coast started at around 21:30 last night.

There remains no timeframe for the electricity supply to be restored to North Coast areas currently without power.

Power supply from the Shakaskraal sub-station to parts of Ballito, Shaka’s Head, Chaka’s Rock, Salt Rock, Umhlali, Shayamoya, Glendale, Shakaskraal, Tinley Manor, Umvoti plaza, Palm Lakes, Etete, Dube village, and Malende were all affected last night at around 21:30.

While issues had been seen to this morning at the Shakaskraal sub-station, Ward 22 councillor Privi Makhan said a fault had been exposed between the Shaka’s Rock sub-station and that of Imbonini Business Park as a result.

This has seen parts of Salt Rock, Umhlali and Shaka’s Rock without power, too.

Makhan said KwaDukuza municipality had called in a contractor to aid with fixing the fault, however, there were no clear timeframes available.

Municipal spokesperson, Sipho Mkhize said they would attempt to restore supply via the Ballito Business Park sub-station, while appealing to residents to reduce electrical demand allowing for urgent permanent repairs to take place.

Ward 30 councillor, Jack Abrahams said some parts of Ballito had seen power restored shortly before 09:00 this morning.
