The lifeless body of a man who had been hiking in Tierpoort was recovered from a stream in the east of Pretoria yesterday.

This comes after the Tshwane emergency services (EMS) was notified of a drowning at Nkwe Permaculture facility.

According to EMS spokesperson Thabo Charles Mabaso, a man between the ages of 25 and 30, was hiking with a friend when he allegedly slipped on a rock and fell into the stream.

“Divers and rescue technicians arrived on the scene to search, and recovered the body of the man, who was declared dead by paramedics on the scene,” he said.

Mabaso further stated that the scene was then handed over to police for further investigation.

The EMS has urged residents to stay mindful of their own safety and the safety of others when they are visiting recreational facilities.
