MECKLENBURG – The local SAPS have launched a manhunt for suspects who burned down four houses at Ntsoaneng Village last Sunday.

The homeowners were accused of practising witchcraft. Mecklenburg SAPS spokesman, Sgt Kgalake Mampuru said tension has been brewing in the area since the death of a villager during the festive season.

“The community mobilised and went on to torch four houses in the village. The houses belonged to the families of the Maepas, Mampurus and the Mojeles,” revealed Mampuru. Limpopo provincial commissioner, Lt Gen Nneke Ledwaba has condemned the attacks.

“Communities are strongly warned to refrain from accusing others of witchcraft and then resort to attacks and destruction of property.”

“Those responsible will be hunted down and will be dealt with accordingly,” said Ledwaba.

Mampuru indicated that the men in blue have already identified some of the culprits and a manhunt is under way.

“Cases of public violence, arson and contravention of the Witchcraft Suppression Act have been opened for investigation. Anyone with information who can assist the police with the investigation can contact them on 086-001-0111.”
