Limpopo hospital murder: Suspect found biting victim’s ‘genitals’
Police are investigating a gruesome murder that took place in a hospital’s psychiatric ward.
The Limpopo police are investigating a disturbing case of murder and attempted murder that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning inside the psychiatric ward at the Philadelphia Hospital in Dennilton, Limpopo.
According to an article published by Polokwane Review, police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says officers on patrol responded swiftly to reports of an assault at the hospital and discovered a horrifying crime scene in a locked room.
“A male suspect was found on top of a deceased male (33), covered in blood and allegedly biting the victim’s genitals. The deceased had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and multiple other injuries, including missing teeth,” Ledwaba says.
The suspect (45) also sustained gunshot wounds to both legs, reportedly inflicted by a security officer attempting to defuse the situation.
He was placed under police guard and is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.
“Additionally, a security guard sustained a gunshot wound to the thigh, allegedly from a ricochet bullet fired by his colleague during the incident. Several spent cartridges were recovered at the scene,” Ledwaba adds.
The suspect has been formally charged with murder.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident, stating: “This is a deeply distressing and gruesome act that has left the community in shock. Ensuring the safety of patients and healthcare workers remains a priority. A thorough investigation is underway to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic event,” she says.
