Limpopo police on the hunt for escaped prisoner
A man charged with murder and attempted murder escaped from police custody while being transported to another location in Polokwane.
Police have launched a manhunt for 31-year-old Thapelo Sebola who escaped from lawful custody while being transported from Polokwane Correctional Services to Motetema on Thursday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the suspect escaped from a police van that was travelling on the D4100 Road, at the Mogaladi junction next to the Tompi Seleka College of Agriculture. He fled into the bushes.
The circumstances surrounding Sebola’s escape are being investigated.
“The suspect faces charges of murder and attempted murder in Motetema and Lebowakgomo, respectively. A manhunt was launched immediately to locate him,” Ledwaba says.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called on the community to assist with information that could lead to Sebola’s re-arrest.
Anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officer Captain Malesela Mothokwa on 082 414 6464, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or their nearest police station.
